SCR's freight loading crosses 100 MTs in 2017-18

South Central Railway (SCR) today said it had transported 103 million tonnes (MTs) of freight during the fiscal 2017-18, around six MTs more the previous financial year.

"The annual originating freight earnings of SCR reached Rs 8,627.6 crore, registering a healthy growth of 10.3 per cent resulting in Rs 808.5 crore higher revenue as compared to 2016-17," SCR Chief Public Relations Officer M Umashankar Kumar said in a release.

During 2017-18, the loading of coal on SCR was to the extent of 52.3 MTs, cement loading was 25.83 MTs, food grains 4.83 MTs, fertilisers 5.56 MTs, raw material for steel plants 4.1 MTs, imported iron ore loading was to the extent of 2 MTs and loading of other goods was 6.38 MTs.

 

The enhancement in the loading as compared with last year is majorly due to increase in the loading of raw material for steel plants by 30 per cent, imported iron ore loading increased by 222 per cent, cement loading increased by 3 per cent and food grains loading increased by 38 per cent, Kumar said.

The overall loading was 103.048 MTs, which is 6.4 per cent higher than that of last year's 96.83 MTs., Kumar said.

SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav complimented the SCR team for the performance by crossing the 100 Million Tonnes mark in freight loading, the release added.
