Delhi BJP MLAs today met Lt Governor Najeeb Jung seeking scrapping of appointment of Krishna Saini as chairperson of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), allegeing it to be "unauthorised and unconstitutional".

"A delegation of BJP MLAs today met the Lt Governor and demanded that the appointment of Krishna Saini as chairperson of DERC by Delhi government be declared null and void because it was unauthorised, unconstitutional and illegal," Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said.

Delhi government "unilaterally" finalised the name of Krishna Saini as chairperson of DERC in "violation" of the Delhi Electricity Act, 2003, he alleged.

As per the Act, Delhi government is bound to make a reference to a selection committee for filling up of the vacancy of the chairperson but this rule was "thrown to the wind" by the government, Gupta alleged.

Accompanied by fellow party MLAs OP Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan, Gupta handed over a memorandum to Jung.
