Born in Indore on November 24, 1935, the veteran scriptwriter has penned scripts for hit films including 'Zanjeer', 'Deewar' and 'Sholay' in the seventies and eighties alongwith his then partner Javed Akhtar, forming the famous Salim-Javed duo.
Announcing the award to Salim, state culture minister Laxmikant Sharma said that the decision was taken unanimously by the jury, official sources said.
Instituted by the state government's Department of Culture in memory of the noted playback singer and actor Kishore, the award includes cash worth Rs 2 lakh and a citation.
The award will be given to Salim at a function in Khandwa, Kishore Kumar's birth place, on the singer's death anniversary, October 13.
Salim is currently supervising the scriptwriting for his son, superstar Salman Khan's upcoming film, 'Sher Khan'.
