Assam based media employees bodies today urged media house owners to follow the recent verdict of the Supreme Court to implement the Majithia Wage Board recommendations for journalist and non-journalist newspaper and news agency employees from this month onward.

The All Assam Media Employees' Federation president Hiten Mahanta in a press release here urged media house owners to follow the ruling of the apex court which on April 9 had dismissed the plea of various newspaper managements seeking review of its judgement and directed them to implement the Majithia Wage Board recommendations.

The Journalists' Forum Assam also urged the Centre for a pay hike for employees of privately owned satellite news channels at par with the print media. (more)

It claimed that nearly 80 per cent of television journalists of the Northeast were paid low salaries.
