Scuffles inside Manipur Central Jail leave three inmates dead

Three inmates of the Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa died today in two incidents of scuffles between them.

Two inmates - Yusuf (21) and Abdus (22) - allegedly hit Thangminlien Zou of Churachandpur district with blunt objects killing him at about 1 AM in the jail localed in Greater Imphal near here, Additional DGP (Prison) P Doungel said.

As the news of death of Thangminlien, imprisoned in connection with a murder case, spread, some inmates allegedly stormed into the Cell 4 of Sector-1 of the prison and killed the alleged attackers, Doungel said.

He said the cause of the attack is yet to be ascertained.
 

Three jail officials and one undertrial were injured in the melee, he said.
