To provide a greater push to sanitation in its area, the SDMC has acquired six new mechanical street sweepers and a few other modern machines, which were flagged off by Lt. Governor Anil Baijal today.

Baijal asked the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to procure all the remaining machines, which have been ordered by it, at the earliest.

Municipal Commissioner P K Goel said the sweepers will help in keeping our roads clean.

The SDMC in a statement said that this move will go a long way in improving the ranking of the civic body in the next Swachhata Sarvekshan.

The L-G said that the SDMC should strive hard to match the level of cleanliness achieved by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Baijal later took a round of the recently beautified Defence Colony Market.

During the inspection, he was also given a presentation on the proposed fully automated multi-level (G+5) car parking at Defence Colony Market, the SDMC said.

It will be constructed over an area of 914 sqm at an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakh within 12 months, the civic body said.

Baijal visited the site of the beautification work, currently underway, beneath the Lajpat Nagar flyover on Ring Road.

He asked authorities to make it a clean, green and attractive place in south Delhi.
