The BJP-led SDMC House in its meeting on Friday withdrew some of the recommendations of the third municipal valuation committee (MVC) that were approved by it in February, officials said.
As the property holders or tenants under different categories were feeling "extra burden" of tax, they had sent a number of representations seeking relief by withdrawing the approved recommendations, officials added.
"Subsequent upon change in the use factor and hike in the rates and categories, the hike was implemented. The SDMC while considering the representations thoroughly, sympathetically decided to roll back the approved recommendations and provide relief to the affected property holders or tenants," the SDMC said in a statement.
Leader of House Kamaljeet Sehrawat presented a resolution to this effect on Friday which received the nod of the House.
The hike in the rates has been withdrawn, the officials said, adding that the relief will not be applicable to the properties whose cases are pending in courts, it said.
"The affected parties will be able to make payment of their due tax with 15 per cent rebate up to the extended last date i.e,. July 31, 2019," the statement said.
