South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) officials today demolished some portions of a five- storey building here purportedly belonging to a relative of AAP MLA and Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman Dinesh Mohaniya.

The corporation officials were accompanied by a police team as they dismantled portions of the fourth and fifth floors of building No.B-14 in the Shiv Park area of Khanpur in compliance with a Delhi High Court order, a senior municipal officer said without, however, commenting on the ownership of the property.

Contacted for his comments, the MLA said, "I do not own the building. The building is owned by a relative of mine, Bhagat Singh, who has been in possession of the property since 1984 and paying property tax on it from 1991."

Some portions of the building covering an area of 60-70sq yard were constructed "flouting" the norms, officials said.

SDMC staff had tried to dismantle the "illegally constructed" portions of the building once before but did not carry out the same over unavailability of adequate police force as there were fears of resistance, the civic corporation official said.

High court had ordered SDMC to take action against illegal constructions following a petition filed by an organisation, Anti-Corruption Forum. The petition had named Mohaniya as a party to the case along with MCD officials.
