A sanitation worker of South Delhi Municipal Corporation, who had allegedly set himself on fire claiming harassment by seniors, has succumbed to his injuries.
Phool Chand, a safai karmachari (sanitation worker) in the civic body's Najafgarh Zone, died in Safdarjung Hospital after being admitted there, the SDMC said today.
Meanwhile, the municipal corporation today announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Chand's family and issued an order for regular appointment of his son on the post of safai karamchari, SDMC said in a statement.

Chairman of the Standing Committee Satish Upadhyay said Executive and Deliberative Wing will also offer financial assistance to the family.
Following the incident, the SDMC suspended a sanitary inspector and an assistant sanitary inspector in the Department of Environment Management Services, Najafgarh Zone on July 28.
