The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to provide a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to needy people, including widows, the destitute, orphaned children and transgenders, an official said today.
The Leader of House in the SDMC, Shikha Rai, said the list of beneficiaries will be approved by the Director, Health Administration.
"The SDMC has decided to provide monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to destitute, widows, divorcee, kinnar (transgender), and orphaned child till he/she attains the age of 18, and persons suffering from serious illnesses as defined by the Health Department," she said in a statement.

Roy expressed hope that maximum number of beneficiaries would be able to avail the new financial assistance scheme.
"It is proposed that the number of beneficiaries may be kept at maximum, 400 persons per municipal ward. Apart from this the mayor, deputy mayor, chairman and deputy chairman of the standing committee, the leader of House and the leader of Opposition will have discretionary quota to provide help," she said, adding the scheme has been approved by the standing committee.
