South Delhi Municipal Corporation has invited expression of interest from leading sports academies to develop playgrounds in schools under its jurisdiction.

"We will outsource the playgrounds to sports academies who will then develop the grounds for a particular sport. Children studying in these schools will be provided training free of cost by these institutions for the use of space. In return, they can train outsiders on the grounds after school hours," SDMC education committee chairman Satish Upadhyay said.

The expression of interest has been invited from leading names in sports, including Bhaichung Bhutia football school and Delhi-based Tennis and Cricket Associations.

"We will shortly begin the process of mapping playgrounds to determine which sport can be played where. After terms and conditions have been finalised, the grounds will be developed and maintained by the academies to whom we outsource a particular site," Upadhyay said.
