The South Delhi Municipal Corporation took action against 106 illegal meat shops in the city during June to mid-Oct this year, the civic body said today.

The matter came up for discussion during the meeting of its Standing Committee today.

"The members said the number of such shops is much more in the SDMC area," the SDMC said in a statement.

The panel's chairman Bhupender Gupta has asked the department concerned to submit a detailed ward-wise report on the issue.

He also issued directions to act fast against the violators in malls and hospitals, who are allegedly charging fees for parking facilities in their basements, it said.

"Malls and hospitals were allowed additional floor area with a rider that they will allow free parking in their basements, and will not allow commercial activities there," he said.

He has directed the zones to submit a detailed report on this issue within a week to enable the SDMC to take urgent action, the SDMC said.
