The incident took place this morning at Bahu Jhholari village when the SDO, identified as Sunil Kumar, was caught red handed while accepting the bribe from the farmers in lieu of granting approval for tubewell connections, Hari Prakash, Inspector of Vigilance Bureau said.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Satbir Singh, a retired foreman of the Power department, the Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught the accused while taking the bribe money at his office.
However, the farmers had already submitted all required fees for the connection with the department, the complainant said.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Kumar and further probes are on into the case, Prakash added.
