Sea safety training for fishermen held

A three-day training programme on Sea Safety for fishermen was conducted at the Fisheries College and Research Institute here.

The main objective of the programme, held under a project sponsored by M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) from November 24, was to impart training on fisheries for economic empowerment of coastal community, a release from the institute said today.

The programme dealt with navigation chart reading, Global positioning system and Eco-sounder operations, studying various sea signals and signals to be used by fishermen while they are under distress.

A total of 20 fishermen from Nagapattinam District participated.
