A team of forensic experts today collected for DNA testing blood samples of a Telangana couple, who have claimed that Pakistan-returned Indian girl Geeta is their daughter.

Blood samples of J Krishnaiah and Gopamma, the farmer couple from Khammam district of Telangana were collected by team from the Forensic Department of AIIMS, led by Dr Chittaranjan Behera, at the Ministry of External Affairs.

"These samples will be tested at AIIMS Forensic lab and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and matched with Geeta's samples, already stored at CFSL to confirm the claim made by the family," a senior government official said.

"The couple said their deaf and mute daughter, youngest of their four girls, went missing in 2008, when they had gone to Guntur to attend a religious meeting. They feel that their daughter had resemblance, including birth marks, to Geeta," the official said.

Doctors team will submit their report of the findings to MEA within a month.

Krishnaiah and his wife, residents of Patamata Narasapuram in Julurpad mandal of Khamam in Telangana, had also gone to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh where 24-year-old Geeta is staying at an institution for the hearing-impaired.

This is the third time that DNA test is being carried out to determine the parentage of Geeta, who returned to India last October.

In March, a couple from Madhya Pradesh also underwent a DNA after they claimed Geeta was their long-lost daughter. However, the results were negative.

Also a family from Saharsa, Bihar had claimed to be Geeta's biological parents. But the DNA test disproved the claim.

Before that, she had refused to recognise a couple from Uttar Pradesh. Also, a 40-year-old woman from Jabalpur district had claimed that Geeta was her lost daughter but Geeta did not recognise her from the picture.
