The police has launched a search to locate the parents of an unknown two-and-a-half year old baby boy, who was handed over to Gitika Rao (25) and her father Devela Rao (60) who are both from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, the Shirdi police said.

Both Gitika and her father Devela Rao were standing near Shirdi temple in Maharashtra, when an unknown person came and handed over a disabled child to them with a request to keep the child with them for sometime during which he would return from the temple, police inspector Pramod Wagh said.

When the person did not return to take the child back even after a long time, Devela Rao approached police and handed over the child to them, Wagh said.

The police handed over the child to Snehalaya, an organisation in Ahmednagar district, he said.
