An extensive search operation was conducted by Punjab police today in border villages following the suspicious movement along the border.

"We conducted search operation in Dorangla, Behrampur villages and areas near Ravi river," Gurdaspur SSP Jasdeep Singh said.

The search was conducted against the backdrop of the suspicious movement spotted by BSF personnel on October 3 on the Chakkri Border Out Post (BOP) in Gurdaspur sector after which they opened fire.

However, Singh said nothing suspicious has been found so far, adding check posts have been set up at several places and security personnel were put on maximum alert.

He said SWAT team was also involved in the search operation.

Singh said force has also been deployed in the areas close to Indo-Pak border as a second line of defence to thwart any attempt by intruders.

Yesterday, search operation was conducted in Dera Baba Nanak area here after a woman claimed to have spotted a suspicious man with a weapon.
