The season's first dengue death in Odisha was reported from SCB Medical College and Hospital here today.
A 5-year-old man from Bihar, who was working in the port township of Paradip died of the vector-borne disease while undergoing treatment at the hospital since Monday.
"The patient was admitted in a critical condition and was immediately shifted to the intensive care unit, where his condition further deteriorated. He succumbed to the viral disease this morning," informed the hospital's dengue nodal officer Shiba Prasad Mohanty.

He said a patient from West Bengal was recently discharged from the hospital after the person recovered from dengue after a fortnight-long treatment.
The hospital since March this year has tested blood samples of at least 2754 patients, out of which 242 were found to be dengue positive so far. Currently, the hospital is treating 16 dengue patients of whom two are stated to be in critical condition.
