Market regulator Sebi will organise an international conference on March 20 focused on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and the participants would discuss various aspects of the newly created business structure.

The conference would also help in creating more awareness as well as attract foreign and domestic investments into REITs.

"The theme of the conference is Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)," the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a statement.

During Sebi's second 'international research conference', the participants would discuss issues related to structure, performance and impact, taxation, valuation of REITs and managing the REITs.

The market regulator has invited international experts from academia, corporates, market practitioners, policy makers among others having experience in the field from countries including Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and the US.

In September 2014, Sebi had notified norms for listing of business trust structures, REITs and InvITs that would help attract more funds in a transparent manner into realty and infrastructure sectors.

REITs, which can be listed on stock exchanges, would help channelise both domestic and overseas investments into real estate.

In Budget 2015-16, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had rationalised capital gain tax regime for the sponsors of newly-created business structure REITs.
