The State Election Commission is mulling installing CCTV cameras in several booths across the state, especially in sensitive and hyper sensitive booths in the coming rural polls in West Bengal, a senior official said.
"We are planning to install CCTV cameras in some booths of the state. We will be able to take a call on it after we receive a full report on categorization of booths in the state," a senior SEC official said.
The SEC has asked the district magistrates and superintendents of police of various districts to prepare a comprehensive report on the categorisation of booths in their respective districts for the three-tier panchayat polls.
The booths have been categorised as 'super sensitive', 'sensitive', 'low sensitive' and 'normal' and based on this the SEC will ask the police to decide on deployment of security personnel in the booths, the official said.
The SEC has asked the state government to stop recruitment in various departments till the elections are over in view of the model code of conduct, he added.
