The West Bengal State Election Commission today sought a report from the Murshidabad district administration on an alleged comment by senior Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Railways Adhir Chowdhry criticising the ruling party and police.

"We have seen it in different media and asked the district administration to submit a report on what Chowdhury said by October 31," SEC Secretary Tapas Roy said here.

To a question about probable steps that could be taken if the SEC finds anything wrong, Roy declined to reply, saying, "Let us review it first. We are not going to make any comment before reviewing the report."

Chowdhury had reportedly threatened to teach the ruling Trinamool Congress and the police administration a lesson if any attempt was made by the government with the help of police to capture Baharampore Municipality by force.

Elections to the Baharampore Municipality would be held on November 22.
