A second airport will be set up in National Capital Region (NCR), Union Minister Mahesh Sharma informed the Rajya Sabha today.
Without providing specific details, he said the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports has recommended a proposal to set up an airport in Alwar, Rajasthan. Alwar is not part of NCR.
To a query on whether a second airport in NCR would be set up, Sharma replied in the affirmative.

The response was to a question on whether the site for the second airport has been finalised.
Sharma said necessary details regarding project cost, financing, schedule of the project and implementation are worked out by the airport promoter and submitted at "in-principle approval stage".
"The proposal has not reached that stage," he said and added that the stage for assessing the air traffic potential has also not been reached.
Last month, Sharma had said the government has approved setting up a second airport in NCR.
"It was decided by the government on June 26 that another airport has to be set up in the national capital region in the future as Delhi airport would be choked by that time.
"On July 6, a meeting in this regard was held with the Civil Aviation Minister (Ashok Gajapathi Raju) and on July 10, an in principle decision in this regard was taken for setting up another airport in NCR," Sharma had said on July 23.
