As many as 282 personnel were today commissioned during a ceremony attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister R R Patil and senior police officials at SRPF ground in Goregaon.
The first batch with 257 personnel, which was inducted in August last year, has taken charge at the civic body's octroi nakas and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Powai.
On the occasion, Pawar said, "The force has a very big responsibility as it takes care of security of important places, including educational, medical and financial institutions and other vital installations in the city.
"I am sure the force is completely capable of handling any kind of situation, including maintaining law and order at the place where they are deployed. The tight security will also help preventing terror attacks."
The armed force would help reduce the burden on the state police of maintaining security at important installations, Patil said at the ceremony.
The personnel include ex-servicemen and home guard officers, apart from direct recruits who have undergone a seven-week training programme for various types of security operations and will have eight hours duty. MORE
