A court here today acquitted a sect leader Baba Pyara Singh Bhaniarawala in a 14-year-old case registered against him for hurting religious sentiments of a community.

The orders were passed by Additional Session Judge Narender Sura.

On April 18, 2002, Noorpur Bedi police in Punjab had registered a case against the Baba under various provisions of the law on charges of hurting religious sentiments of a community.

The sect leader's counsels submitted before the court that earlier the CJM Ambala had also acquitted him in this case on June 14, 2013. However, the Punjab government had filed an appeal against this order in the district court.

Later on the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the case was transferred to Ambala Court.
