Section 144 imposed in Ghaziabad ahead of civic polls

Ahead of the upcoming civic body polls, prohibitory measures under Section 144 of the CrPC will be imposed in the district from tomorrow, an official said today. The restrictions will stay in effect till December 5.

District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari, in her order, stated that no candidate or party will be allowed to convene meetings at his/her residence or in the public, take out rallies or processions without prior permission till December 5, District Information Officer R B Singh said, adding that carrying of licenced weapons has also been banned.

Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 empowers an executive magistrate to prohibit an assembly of more than four people in an area.
