Security has been tightened in Jammu and Kashmir today, a day after a top army commander disclosed that there were "disturbing" inputs about a terror attack in the country and also after the detection of a tunnel along the international border in Jammu region.

"We have already taken measures and the security has been placed on maximum alert across the entire state.

"Detection of the tunnel has in RS Pura sector has been taken very seriously", Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, K Rajendra Kumar told PTI.

He said that all necessary steps have been taken in wake of the disclosure made by the senior army commander and the detection of the tunnel on the IB.

"Specific inputs or no inputs or not necessary, but we have to be extra careful in the wake of the events that have been taking place in the recent past like the tunnel on the International border is a serious matter and adequate arrangements have been made," Kumar said.

He said all "preventive and defensive" measures have been put in place and the forces have been asked to remain extra vigilant.

The General Officer in Commanding in Chief of the Western Command of the Army Lt Gen KJ Singh had yesterday said that there were disturbing inputs about a terror attack in the country.

"There are security-related problems today.

You know, Maha Shivratri is coming.

There are inputs which are disturbing but notwithstanding that extra care has been taken," he had said.

"These events (terror attacks) are planned to create maximum media impact and when can you create a media impact when Parliament is in session, when a festival is taking place, so both happen to be going on.... So that is why, there are inputs but we have taken steps against that.

"I must assure you of that," Lt Gen KJ Singh had said.

Terming the presence of the tunnel as a serious threat, the army commander had said that the tunnel was made to facilitate infiltration from across the border.
The DGP said that instructions have been passed on the

district officers and the incharge of Police stations along the border to remain extra vigilant as some anti national elements might try to create problems.

"The police stations and police posts along the international border and Line of Control have been asked to remain extra vigilant in the wake of the detection of the tunnel.

"We are prepared to foil the nefarious designs of the anti national elements," the DGP said.

Not taking any chance the Border Security Force (BSF) has also started removing the tall vegetation that has cropped up along the international border.

"The infiltrators try taking advantage of the tall growth, so we have started the removal of the growth, it was because of that effort that the tunnel in the RS Pura was detected after which we have increased our efforts to clear the entire area of all such growth," a senior BSF officer said.
