Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful celebrations of the coming Christmas and New Year festivals in the Christian-dominated Mizoram state, a senior police official said Sunday.
Nine duty posts were being set up at places in and around Aizawl, where drug users and drinkers used to congregate, DIG (Northern Range) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte told PTI.
Round the clock patrolling by police personnel on foot have been in place, Khiangte said.
"Joint coordination committees were constituted in all the eight district headquarters with the officials of the police and excise and narcotics departments," he said.
Strict vigil was maintained at the entry points along borders with Assam, Tripura and Myanmar, the official said.
