Security beefed in J-K for 'Navratra'

Tight security measures, including additional deployment of paramilitary forces, have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of Navratra's in Jammu as well Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine.

"All arrangements have been made. Additional units of the CRPF and Haryana police have been roped in to prevent any untoward incident," DIG Jammu-Kathua range, Shakeel Ahmad Baig said.

"Proper frisking is being done at places, besides police officials in plain clothes have also been deployed to keep a close check at any suspicious movement," he said.

DIG Udhampur-Reasi range, Garib Dass, while giving information about the arrangents made for the Navratra festival in Katra, said that a meeting was recently held to discuss the security measures.
 

"Elaborate arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of Navratras. We have put in all the resources to ensure the highest level of security keeping in mind the comfort and safety of the people," Dass said.

Asked about the working of the CCTV cameras enroute the cave shrine, the DIG informed that they will be made functional during the shortest period of time.

"We are in the process of repairing them. We are hopeful that they will be functional during the shortest possible time," he said.

Superintendent of Police, Katra, Mohan Lal, meanwhile, said that police has been kept on high alert to avoid any untoward incident.

"Police has been put on high alert. We are checking all the vehicles. Every aspect of the security has been taken care of," the SP said.
