Security is being beefed up in the Seemandhra region (coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema) of Andhra Pradesh amid reports that the Union Cabinet may take a decision on the issue of bifurcation of the state today.

Additional forces are being deployed in all the 13 districts of Seemandhra and security at the residences of some of the Ministers (both Central and state) and key political leaders hailing from the region is being increased.

"Additional forces have come and are being distributed depending on the situation in these districts," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) VSK Kaumudi told PTI this evening.

Asked if the police anticipated any trouble in Seemandhra region, the senior police officer said, "We have to wait and watch. We are alert and monitoring the situation and sufficient forces are there to tackle any situation."

Director General of Police B Prasada Rao held a meeting with senior police officers here and reviewed the situation in the Seemandhra districts. Each district will be supervised by an official of the rank not lower than Inspector General, sources said.
