State government has suspended six police personnel for "negligence" in duty as they failed to spot naxals who entered the residence of a former Congress MLA in Kanker district on Monday and snatched away their weapons.

"The jawans deployed at ex-MLA Manturam Pawar's house for security have been suspended for negligence in discharging their duties," Kanker SP RN Dash told PTI today.

The jawans were on duty at Pawar's residence in the insurgency-hit district when four armed Maoists, dressed as civilians, came on two motorcycles and entered his residence in Pakhanjore, around 250 km away from the state capital, at around 8:30 PM.

They snatched away four Insas rifles, one SLR rifle and several rounds of live cartridges from the jawans before slapping them, the SP had said.

However, nobody was injured in the incident.

At the time of the incident, Pawar was in Raipur while his wife, two children and a nephew were present in the house, but none of them was harmed.

Those suspended are identified as Rakesh Sahu, Suman Diwakar, Dinesh Mandawi, Vinod Netam --all constables, and Jagnath Netam and Rajkumar --assistant constables, Dash said.
