Security forces arrest LeT militant blamed for June 20 blast

In a significant catch, security forces today claimed to have arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant who is the main accused in a bomb blast of last month when a police vehicle was targeted, killing an undertrial militant from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and a cop.

A joint team of Army and Police apprehended Ubaid Tariq Untoo alias Faris, a resident of Kralteng, at a vehicle check post near Channa - Khan area of Sopore township in the district yesterday, army officials said.

They said the check post had been set up on the basis of a specific intelligence input regarding the movement of a LeT militant in the area and finally Untoo was nabbed.
 

The apprehended militant is the main accused in the case of Sopore blast which took place in a police vehicle on June 20 this year, they said.

An undertrial militant namely Waheed Noor Khan of PoK as well as a police constable were killed in the incident, they said.

A Chinese pistol and three live rounds were recovered from his possession, the officials said.

The officials said an FIR has been registered and Untoo has been handed over to the police.
