Security forces today recovered some arms and ammunition from a forest area after exchanging fire with militants in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.

A joint search party of police and Rashtriya Rifles came under firing from militants in Zaloora forest area in Sopore, 55 kms from here, late last night, a police spokesman said.

He said though there was no casualty in the brief exchange of fire, security forces recovered an AK assault rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds from the scene this morning.

The weapon was apparently left behind by the militants while fleeing from the area, the spokesman said adding search operation to flush out the militants was on.

In another incident, a live grenade was recovered by the security forces near a bank in Sopore town.

The grenade was found lying in the verandah of the bank and it was later neutralised by the bomb disposal squad, the spokesman said.
