Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramanand Kaushal and his security guard beat up the shop keeper Niranjan following an argument between them over fitting of an acquarium in which Niranjan sustained injuries, the DSP (City) Ramakant Prasad said.
The injured shopkeer's kins and local people came to his rescue and attacked the security guard who too was injured, he said.
The DSP, posted at Bagaha police district, escaped unhurt in the incident.
While Niranjan was admitted to the PMCH, the unidentified security guard was taken to a private nursming home for treatment, Prasad said.
Both the parties have lodged FIR against each other.
An investigation was underway in the matter, he said. PTI KDK
