Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Odisha even as high alert was sounded across the state in view of security threat and to ensure smooth Republic Day celebrations.

"In view of (information on) security threat received from IB and different agencies, we have alerted all districts, airports, railway stations and bus stands," said Director General of Police (DGP) K B Singh after reviewing state level parade rehearsal at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here.

Singh said adequate security arrangements have been made all over the state and extra vigil is being maintained in Maoist-affected areas to prevent any untoward incident.

A four-layer security ring would be thrown along the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here for the state level celebrations on January 26 where Governor S C Jamir was slated to unfurl the tricolour and witness the parade.

In the state capital, as many as 22 platoons of police force (around 700 personnel) would be deployed during the celebration, DGP said.

Some units of Special Operation Group (SOG), Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and sniffer dogs would also be deployed near the parade venue in the capital city.

Amid elaborate security measures, barricades had been raised and check posts erected on the roads linking important areas.
