Security arrangements are being beefed up to counter Maoists in the areas bordering Chhattisgarh and Odisha to ensure peaceful conduct of the Lok Sabha elections on April 30 and May 7, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police B Prasada Rao said today.
"Maoists are active in neighbouring states like Chhattisgarh and Odisha and to some extent in Maharashtra. Keeping that in mind, we are taking all measures in bordering districts of Andhra Pradesh, to counter the Maoists and conduct peaceful polls," the DGP said.
"They (Maoists) call for a poll boycott whenever elections are held. In view of this, we are making security arrangements (to thwart their attempts to disrupt electoral process)," he told reporters.
Speaking at another event organised by the Andhra Pradesh Journalists Forum (APJF) at People's Plaza here, Rao asked people to exercise their franchise.
