Security has been beefed up for Vice Chancellor of Calicut University M Abdul Salam, facing violent protests from DYFI and SFI activists over various issues, with the deployment of two armed guards at his residence.
Besides, a 30-member permanent police control room started operations on the university campus today as part of beefing up of security for the V-C, university sources said.
"Two armed guards have been posted in front of the VC's House since yesterday," they said.

The V-C had fainted yesterday when he was gheraoed by angry DYFI and SFI protestors for nearly three hours in the campus.
Thrissur Range IG T J Jose and Malappuram police Debesh Kumar Behara visited the campus and decided to enhance the security.
The V-C has also informed Kerala Governor P Sathasivam about the threat to his life and that of his family members after his residence was attacked allegedly by SFI activists.
The V-C has been facing protests for several months from stakeholders such as students, teachers, and employees on various issues, including graft charges. Protesters have been alleging that the academic atmosphere has been disrupted under his charge.
