Security tightened in city on eve of Muharram processions

Security has been tightened in the city on the eve of Muharram processions to be taken out at various parts of the city.

Talking to reporters here today, Police Commissioner E Radhakrishnan said "Nine State Reserve Police companies and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in different parts of the city which has been divided into 27 sectors, in addition to which 1,000 homeguards have also been deployed.

Before a month, the city had witnessed minor incidents of communal violence.

Closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) have been installed at various places in the city and a team of videographers have been kept ready for the occasion.
 

A ban has also been imposed on SMS, MMS and WhatsApp in the city which would come into effect from 10 am tomorrow and remain in force until 7 am on November 5.
