Security tightened in Coimbatore airport

The city airport has been brought under tight security cover in view of the national alert sounded following reported infiltration by terrorists in Gujarat.

Though there was no specific threat to the airport, a three-tier security cover had been put in place following the nation-wide alert, police said.

Visitors entry had been banned till March 12, they added.

Two shopping malls in the city received bomb scare last night but they turned out to be hoax after police carried out searches for more than two hours.
The proposal of AAI for development of airport business

centre in the state capital over 60 acre land near Bhubaneswar airport was also discussed at the meeting.
 

"It was expected that development of business centre would bring about Rs 20,000 crore investment to the city and would generate employment opportunities for about 35,000 persons," a senior official said.

Besides Business Centre, the AAI also has plans to expand the runway for landing of big flights, taxi stand facility, new ATC tower and commercial development, Mohapatra said.
