Seed and fertiliser dealers raided all across Telangana state

The Vigilance and Enforcement Department conducted surprise raids across all Telangana districts and seized illegal stock of seeds worth Rs 12.62 crore, it was officially announced here today.

Vigilance and Enforcement Director General T P Das stated in a release that, "Firms and dealers were indulging in illegal and unauthorised sale as well as storage of seeds and fertilisers, without maintaining records, violating provisions of the Seed Act 1966 and the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985".

Large quantities of various commodities were seized and cases were booked against violators under relevant sections of Essential Commodities Act 1955, Seed Act, 1966 and Fertiliser Control Order, 1985, the release stated.
 

Irregularities pertaining to unauthorised sale as well as storage of seeds and fertilisers, non-maintenance of records, stock variations, besides violations of provisions of the Seed Act, 1966 as well as Fertiliser Control Order, 1985, were found during the raids, the release stated.

After raids on 88 seed processing plants as well as seed and fertiliser dealers' outlets, 33 cases were booked, while the total worth of seized stock is worth Rs 12.62 crores, the release stated.

Major seizures were reported from Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Warangal and Mahaboobnagar districts which accounted for around Rs 11.4 crore of stock, the release stated.

Instructions have been issued to send sample of seized items to laboratory to test its purity, the release stated.
