'Seek expertise of French institute to maintain temple tanks'

: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has asked boards of trustees of temples in the Union Territory to seek expertise of French Institute (administered by the French government) here to maintain temple tanks.

Talking to members of the Board of Angala Parameswari temple in neighbouring Muthialpet at the end of her visit to the shrine today, she said the Institute and Department of Science Technology and Environment of the government had the relevant expertise for maintenance of the temple tanks'.

She said the Institute,established by the previous French government here in 1955 to carry out research on indology, ecology and other scientific activities, had done elaborate research and had expertise on water preservation and conservation.
 

After worshiping at the sanctum sanctorum,Bedi said there was every need to de-silt the temple tank. Its maintenance should be ensured to prevent mosquito breeding and to make the water potable.

She said a joint meeting of trustees of various temples in the Union Territory would be held in Raj Nivas soon to discuss various issues and to share best practices.
