The Supervisory Committee on Mullaperiyar dam has concluded that seepage of the water reservoir is within the limits, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Replying to a question, Minister of State for Water Resources Sanwar Lal Jat said that the report of the daily seepage details of the dam was scrutinised during the sixth meeting of the Supervisory Committee on November 24.
The Supervisory Committee concluded that the seepage is within limits, he said.
The Minister further said the steps for operation and maintenance of dams are undertaken by respective state governments from their own resources.
"As per information furnished by the government of Tamil Nadu, responsible for operation and maintenance of Mullaperiyar dam, there is no leakage in the dam," Jat said.
It may be recalled that a supervisory committee was constituted by the Centre to look after the safety of the structure and increasing the full reserve level to 142 feet of Mullaperiyar dam.
