Prices of copra Alapuzha and copra Kozhikode rose firmly at the spices market here today owing to heavy buying from stockists as well as good upcountry offtake.

Besides, strong seasonal demand and lower arrivals of good quality copra also contributed to the significant upmove, a trader said.

Meanwhile, black pepper, ginger, copra Rajapur and copra edible held steady in the absence of necessary buying support.

Copra office Alapuzha shot up by Rs 200 per quintal to Rs 9,400 from Tuesday's level of Rs 9,200 and copra office Kozhikode climbed by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 9,200 as compared to Rs 9,100.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 710/760 (710/760), ginger bleached (per kg) 240 (240), ginger unbleached (per kg) 260 (260), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 9,400 (9,200), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 9,200 (9,100), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 22,000 (22,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 13,000 (13,000).
