Select copra surge on sustained demand

Both the upcountry copra prices including copra Alapuzha and copra Kozhikode prices surged at the spices market here today due to sustained demand from stockists and higher millers offtake.

Meanwhile, rest all other local spices market closed today following All India Mathadi, Transport and General Kamgar Union strike in protest against the state governments move to make amendments to the labour laws.

Copra office Alapuzha rose by Rs 200 per quintal to Rs 10,500 from last Friday's closing level of Rs 10,300.

Copra office Kozhikode also moved up Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 10,300 as against Rs 10,200 previously.
 

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) closed (560/660),ginger bleached (per kg) closed (215), ginger unbleached (per kg) closed (235), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 10,500 (10,300), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 10,300 (10,200), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) closed (17,500), Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) closed (12,500).
