Copra office Alappuzha and copra office Kozhikode surged in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today following rising demand from stockists and retailers amid good export offtake.

All other spices ruled steady in absence of necessary buying support.

Copra office Alappuzha and copra office Kozhikode firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal each to Rs 12,600 and Rs 12,400 from Tuesday's close Rs 12,500 and Rs 12,300 respectively.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs) with previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 410/490 (410/490), ginger unbleached (per kg) 130 (130), copra office Alappuzha (per quintal) 12,600 (12,500), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 12,400 (12,300), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 17,000 (17,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 14,000 (14,000).
