Select metals strengthen on global cues

Select base metal prices rose by up to Rs 3 per kg at the non-ferrous market today, tracking a firming trend overseas.

Traders said sentiment turned better after zinc gained as stockpiles on the London Metal Exchange dropped to the lowest since 2009, signaling global supplies are shrinking.

Meanwhile, zinc for delivery in three months increased 1.2 per cent to settle at USD 1,894 a metric tonne on the LME.

In the national capital, zinc ingot and copper mixed scrap were up by Rs 2 each to Rs 98,104 and Rs 364, while nickel plate (4x4) traded higher by Rs 3 to Rs 835-840 per kg, respectively.

Zinc ingot Rs 98-104, Nickel plate (4x4) Rs 835-840, gun metal scrap Rs 227, Bell metal scrap Rs 229, copper mixed scrap Rs 364, chadri deshi Rs 295.

Lead ingot Rs 80, lead imported Rs 86, aluminium ingots Rs 154, aluminium sheet cutting Rs 150, aluminium wire scrap Rs 150 and aluminium utensils scrap Rs 148.
