Sena corporator, six others awarded life sentence for murder

Seven persons, including a Shiv Sena corporator, were today sentenced by a sessions court to life imprisonment in a 2011 murder case.

Additional Sessions judge A S Bhaisare sentenced sitting Shiv Sena corporator Raja Gavare, Atul alias Batli Deshmukh, Ravichand alias Raja Thakur, Jaideep Salvi, Sujit Sutar, Sujit Batrya Nyaynirgune and Niteen Vaity to life sentence.

Bunty Mishra, another accused, is still at large.

Additional Public Prosecutor Hemlata Deshmukh examined 24 witnesses.

The victim Deepak Patil, who himself was an accused in Devidas Chougule murder case, was attacked while returning to his residence in Airoli from the court on January 4, 2011.
 

As his car came near Vitawa subway, the accused stopped it and shot Deepak dead on the spot. Others in the car were injured.

According to the prosecution, previous enmity was the reason behind the attack.

The judge relied on the eyewitness accounts.
