Shiv Sena leader and former
Aurangabad MP Chandrakant Khaire has apologised for criticising the party for fielding Priyanka Chaturvedi for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Maharashtra.
The Shiv Sena on last Thursday nominated its deputy leader Chaturvedi as the party's candidate for the March 26 Rajya Sabha polls.
After Chaturvedi's candidature was announced, Khaire took potshots at the party leadership, saying the Shiv Sena of Aaditya Thackeray perhaps does not need old guards like him.
Aaditya Thackeray is the son of Sena president and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The 29-year-old heads the Sena's youth wing and is also a minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
Apologising for his critical remarks, Khaire, who was eying Rajya Sabha ticket, said emotions got better of him.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Khaire said, "Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya are our leaders and if anyone is hurt, I apologise for my words."
"I was expecting candidature for the Rajya Sabha polls but Chaturvedi was selected by the party for that post. I made a statement as I was emotional at that time," he said.
"I have won elections for 32 long years, Khaire said, adding "I will work under the leadership of Aaditya Thackeray" who is the third generation leader of the Thackeray family.
