A delegation of Shiv Sena leaders, led by executive president of the party Uddhav Thackeray and comprising ex-Mayor of Belgaum Municipal Corporation Manda Balekundri and other corporators met Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan here.

The delegation termed the dismissal of the Belgaum Municipal Corpration by the Karnataka as 'unfair and vindictive'.

It asked the Governor to request the President to revoke the decision of the Karnataka Government and reinstatate the Municipal Corporation.

Shiv Sena has been advocating amalgamating the border district of Belgaum with Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra Ekikran Samithi (MES) controlled Belgaum City Corporation was superseded by the Karnataka Government for the the second time in about seven months for allegedly violating the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Act 1976.

Earlier, on December 15, 2011 the the corporation had been dissolved for its "failure to perform duties" in accordance with the Karnataka Municipal Act.

Three days back, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray had invoked President Pratibha Patil's Maharashtrian origin and asked her to "hang" the Karnataka government for being "anti-Maharashtra".
