Strains in the ruling alliance in Maharashtra came to the fore again, with Shiv Sena attacking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today over the law and order and taking critical view of the state budget presented yesterday.

Targetting Fadnavis, who also holds Home portfolio, without naming him, Sena MLC Anil Parab wondered how dance bars are still functioning in Mumbai despite the ban imposed on by them by the previous Congress-NCP government.

"If a police van is parked outside (the bars) then it indicates that they are on. Dance bars are functioning with co-operation of police," he said.

Parab alleged that the Home department lacked any control over law and order situation in the state, which is a far cry from the days when late BJP leader Gopinath Munde used to make surprise checks at police stations as deputy Chief Minister in 1995.

He said police could not even solve simple cases of chain snatching.

Leader of Opposition in the Council, Dhananjay Munde, raised the issue of protection given by Home department to a cricket bookie and wanted it to be withdrawn.

The BJP-led government also came under fire from many members of the Upper House over the law and order situation, who raised various issues during the discussion.

Shiv Sena also took some potshots at the maiden budget of the Fadnvanis government presented to the state legislature yesterday suggesting sufficient funds had not been allocated for the development of Mumbai.
