"Some of the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) buildings, which were built between 1960s and 1980s, are in a dilapidated condition and should be re-developed at the earliest," Sena leader in the Legislative Assembly Subhash Desai said in a press conference.
"There are 3,701 buildings of MHADA in the city and suburbs in which more than 88,000 families are living," he added
Desai, who claims that he had first raised the issue of re-development of MHADA buildings in 2006, said he had again drawn the attention of the government in this regard in the recent Monsoon Session of the state Legislature.
"On July 25, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had assured to hold a meeting in this regard within two days, but nothing has been done yet. He should convene a meeting and take a decision immediately," Desai added.
The Sena leader also alleged that MHADA has "tweaked" its policy, which stated that it would re-develop the MHADA buildings if they are in a dilapidated condition.
"MHADA has been amending their Development Control Rules (DCR) and has also tweaked its re-development policy," he alleged.
If the Chief Minister does not take a decision within 15 days, we would protest against the government, the Sena leader said.
